Has anyone ever told you that you woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Mornings are not everyone’s favorite time of the day but taking certain steps to make your morning easier might help you become more of a morning person. Check out these easy ways to make your morning brighter:
Wake up a little earlier
If you’re not a morning person you probably don’t think that waking up earlier is beneficial, however just a few minutes can help. Instead of sleeping as long as you can and jumping out of bed the instant your alarm clock goes off, try setting your alarm for just 10 or 15 minutes earlier. Use your extra time to gradually wake up. Stretch, mentally map out your day or decide what you are going to wear before you even get out of bed. This extra time is a great way to calmly start off your morning and prepare yourself for the day ahead.
Listen to music
When you’re getting ready for your day, turn on the radio or iPod. Music can help improve your mood. Listening to upbeat music is linked to positivity and creativity while rock can give you an adrenaline rush. The genre of music you listen to is up to you and what kind of mood you’re in, but here are some effects of different types of music.
Make a check list
Not only is making a checklist a productive way to start off your morning, but it will also help you mentally prepare for the day. It’s easy for us to forget things, so using checklists ensures you won’t overlook anything. In addition, checklists allow you to save your brain power for more creative things. By writing your checklist in the morning, you are aware of what you need to get done throughout the day and you can pace and brace yourself for the day ahead.
Have a good breakfast
As mentioned in a previous post, Breakfasts to Jumpstart your Day, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Nutritional foods like whole grains and fruits are great breakfast foods that will start your morning off right and will keep you energized until lunch. Eating breakfast replaces morning crabbiness with improved concentration, so don’t skip it! If you’re in a rush have a healthy on-the-go breakfast, such as a low-fat yogurt or a fruit smoothie.
Everyone has their own morning routine, whether it involves getting the kids ready, preparing for a big meeting or finishing up last minute touches on a presentation. There are never enough hours in a day, but hopefully following these tips will at least help make your mornings more manageable.
