The hustle and bustle of commutes can be incredibly stressful and being stressed before you’re even at work is not a good way to start your day. For many people traffic and frustration-filled commutes are unavoidable, but there are some ways that you can make your commute just a bit easier.
Leave a little earlier
Nothing is more annoying than being stuck in a line of standstill traffic which is why much of the stress that comes from commuting comes from these unwelcome delays. Try avoiding this mess of traffic by leaving for work just a bit earlier. Getting on the road 10 minutes early might not seem like much, but you will be leaving 10 minutes sooner than the drivers you normally run in to!
Try a new route
Have you ever thought about how long you have been taking the same route to work? Taking the same way to and from work every day can get old fast, so why not try a new route? Taking a new way to work will eliminate the monotony of the same route and will give you a chance to see new things. Just remember to test-drive your new route before going to work in the morning so you know your way!
Stock your MP3 player with your favorites
In the morning many radio stations play the news or talk radio which can be boring to listen to. Instead, make a playlist of your favorite songs to listen to on your way to work. The news can be full of negative or depressing stories, whereas your favorite tunes will naturally lift your spirits and will lighten your mood to get you ready for the work day.
Eat breakfast before you leave
Breakfast on the go has become more common because of time constraints. This might seem like a good idea, but don’t forget that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Eating breakfast before leaving for work will help you wake up and eliminate the fatigue that comes with grumbling, hungry stomachs when driving. You’ll also have healthier options at home and not have to wait in drive through lines!
Apps to assist your commutes

Available for Android, BlackBerry and iPhone.
- WakeMe@ is an app for commuters who have fallen asleep while taking the bus or rail to work. iNap uses your phone’s GPS to follow your transit route and can be programmed to wake you up once you arrive at your programmed stop. Available for Android.
