The Holidays are a time of year when people tend to go overboard. From extravagant decorations to expensive gifts, the Holiday season often brings extra stress instead of a relaxing time with friends and family. Check out these tips for how to make your Holiday season simpler than ever:
Use a calendar
A combination of work, parties, shopping and travel all contribute to busy schedules during the Holidays which is why it’s important to keep track of all of your to-dos on a calendar. Having all of the things you need to do and places you need to be in one place will help you from becoming double booked and overwhelmed.
Set a budget
Between buying gifts and decorations, cooking meals and traveling, it’s easy to break the bank during the Holidays. This is why setting a budget early is important. Determine how much you want to spend, break down how you are going to spend that money and commit yourself to sticking to that budget. Use cash to buy gifts so credit card bills don’t sneak up on you.
Change up gift giving
If you have lots of friends or a large family, gift giving can get expensive and challenging. You may not have enough time to go to several different stores or you might not know what to get someone. To avoid this problem, Secret Santa is a fun alternative where you only have to buy gifts for one person. Another option is eliminating gifts all together and choosing to donate to a charity in a friend or family member’s name.
If you are having a Holiday get together at your house, you may feel obligated to have your home spic and span and decorated from top to bottom. If you have kids, get them involved by having them help clean and decorate while you cook to make things get done faster. If you don’t have kids, recruit your friends to help you get your home ready.
Quick and easy decorating
Some people love decorating for the Holidays while others feel obligated. Maybe you want your home to look festive but you don’t want to spend hours decorating? There’s a solution! Holiday lights, garland, wreaths and a Christmas tree are all quick, simple ways to decorate that also don’t require much take-down time.
Cooking a meal for a large group of people can be a lot of work and can get costly. Instead of preparing the entire meal, offer to cook the main dish and ask each person attending to bring a certain dish or beverage. This takes the burden off of you while ensuring there will be enough food for everyone.
