Wellness Tips For 2014

For many, the New Year is a time for people to create a resolution or goal to better themselves or their lifestyle in the following year. Resolutions are great, but there are many small adjustments that you can make to your daily routine that can help make big improvements in the long run. See these 5 quick changes you can make to improve your mental and physical health in 2014 and beyond:

Stress Less
A little stress in your life is normal, but too much stress can be harmful to your health and relationships. There are many techniques you can use to reduce stress, including breathing exercises, talking to friends or family, and learning to say no, but if you’re looking to go beyond these basics, we think this article from WebMD can help.

Get Enough Sleep
You have probably heard numerous times that it’s important to get enough sleep, but have you ever wondered why? According to a Harvard study, not getting enough sleep can lead to weight fluctuations, mood swings, irritability, irregular heartbeat and altering your immune system. The National Sleep Foundation recommends adults get between seven and nine hours of sleep per night, so start resting up!

Drink Plenty of Water
Our bodies are made up of roughly 60 percent water, so it’s no surprise that drinking enough water is important to our health. In addition to keeping your body hydrated, drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluids per day is good for your skin, kidneys and muscles.

Floss Your Teeth
You have probably had your dentist ask you at least once if you floss regularly. If your answer is no, aim to begin flossing once per day. In addition to healthier teeth and gums, flossing can help protect your body from bacteria and diseases including systemic and periodontal diseases. Make it a goal to floss regularly so the next time your dentist asks, you can proudly answer, "Yes!"

Wear Sunscreen
While it may seem silly to wear sunscreen during any season except summer, the truth is it’s not. If your habit is only applying sunscreen when it’s 80 degrees and sunny, if you’re lounging poolside or don’t wear any at all, 2014 is the time to start! When you plan to spend time outside, it is a good idea to apply a minimum of SPF 15 to your exposed skin and reapply every 2 hours.

Holiday Travel Tips from Tiger Leasing

The holiday season is all about being with family and friends, for many people that means having to travel. It’s easy for the large number of cars, luggage and frantic travelers at airports during this time of year to make a stressful travel experience even more unpleasant. However, taking certain steps can create a smooth trip for you and your family from the time you step foot in the airport to the time you arrive back home. If you’re traveling this holiday season, be safe and keep these travel tips from Tiger Leasing in mind!

Avoid Peak Travel Days
According to a travel article from Yahoo, travel experts predict that this season’s worst days to travel will be November 24 and 28, December 24, 27 and 31, and January 2 and 3. If possible, plan your travel for days other than these. Not only are airports busier on these days, but airfare costs are generally higher, too.

Stick to Early Morning or Late Night Flights
There are a few benefits of booking flights either early or late in the day, the first being that there are generally fewer people at the airport during these times. This means less congestion and frustration when checking in and going through security. Another benefit is if your flight is cancelled and you have an early morning flight, there should be no problem finding a different flight for the same day.

Always Arrive Early
Missing your flight is the last thing you want to do, so it is recommended you arrive at the airport about an hour and a half to two hours early. This gives you plenty of time to check in, check your bags, get through security and get to your terminal. Remember, arriving too early beats arriving too late any day. Don’t start your vacation out by watching your plane leave without you on it!

Avoid Checking Bags
If you’re only traveling for a few days, you may want to consider packing light enough so you can fit everything in a carry-on bag. Depending on the airline you’re traveling with, checked baggage can cost extra. However, carry-on bags typically cost nothing, you can avoid waiting for your luggage when you land and you don’t have to worry about your bag of clothes, gifts and other important items getting lost. Just remember TSA’s 3-1-1 rule for liquids, aerosols and gels in carry-on bags and check with your airline for all rules and regulations.

Don’t Wrap Packed Gifts
If you’re traveling during the holidays, there is a good chance you plan to bring a few gifts with you. It is ok to pack wrapped gifts in your luggage but according to TSA, they may need to unwrap your gift to be screened.
“Wrapped gifts are screened just like any other item. We can see through the paper just like we can see through luggage, but just as we have to open a bag when it requires a search due to an anomaly or an alarm, we have to open wrapped items as well if they alarm or require additional screening.” –TSA Blog

Instead of packing wrapped gifts in your bags, you may want to consider shipping gifts or simply packing gifts in your luggage unwrapped.

The holiday season is meant to be a joyful time spent with friends and family, which is why traveling should only make your holidays happier! Do you have more tips to make traveling a breeze? Share them with us in a comment below, on our Facebook page or tweet us!
