Inspiration for the Business Professional

With the Holidays fast approaching, it's vital to make sure that your business stays as focused and motivated as possible to accomplish goals that you set out to achieve. Below we've compiled a list of 7 quotes that relate to staying motivated and garnering success for your business:

  1. "A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instincts." – Richard Branson
  2. "To succeed… You need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you." – Tony Dorsett
  3. "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will." – Vince Lombardi
  4. The golden rule for every business man is this: Put yourself in your customer's place." – Orison Swett Marden
  5. If you work just for money, you'll never make it, but if you love what you're doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours." – Ray Kroc
  6. Desire is the key to motivation, but it's the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal - a commitment to excellence - that will enable you to attain the success you seek." – Mario Andretti
  7. Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities. They vary in their desires to reach their potential." – John Maxwell

As you can see, success IS attainable, but there are several different obstacles to surpass in order to get there. For example, having a passion and desire for the work that you do is one of the most important aspects of being successful in the business profession; it's also important to have a customer-focused approach to your business, as customers are the reason why we do what we do. So, what do you think? Are there any quotes that stand out to you more than others? Can you think of any favorite quotes that didn't make the list that you'd like to share? Best Practices in Giving Employee Recognition

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it's important to remember that it's a time of thanks. Especially as a business owner, it's crucial for you to provide an environment for your employees that is rewarding and gratifying. The team at Tiger Leasing has developed a few different thoughts on ways in which you can create this type of environment for your employees through employee recognition:

Way #1: Create an employee of the week/month reward and expectation
Although a little bit cliché, challenging employees to perform above and beyond job expectations is a great way to push them to do their best, and having a reward that everyone knows about and can strive for gives employees an added goal to keep in the back of their mind.

Way #2: Give recognition to employees that are performing exceptionally well "in the moment"
Why wait to reward those that you know are doing amazing work? Giving praise immediately after a job well done is never too soon. But save the constructive criticism for later on; if you follow recognition with criticism, that’s the only thing that employees are going to remember. Give them time to bask in the glory and feel content that they’re doing great things; later, provide them with ways in which they can improve more in the future.

Way #3: Write personalized letters for individuals that you see performing above your expectations for them
It's important to remember to be as specific as possible when doing this. If you're just going to write a generic "great job this week" type of letter, there's really no point. Use examples of the fantastic work being done by employees in the letter, mention their name, and make them as personalized as possible. You need to make sure that your employees are getting clear, believable feedback.

Way #4: Give a shout-out to employees during an office meeting or when everyone is together in the same are
For many employees, being publicly recognized for outstanding efforts in the workplace can be a major morale booster; however, not all employees function the same way. Try to develop an understanding of which employees do well in the limelight and which prefer to lay low. Both types of people exist, and one isn't "better" than the other, merely different.

Can you think of any other ways in which employee recognition should be given out? What kinds of experiences have you had where you've given praise to an employee, or vice-versa? Let us know in the comment section, on our Facebook and Google+ page, and on Twitter!
